Value Chain Development Strategy (VCDS) in four northern Nigerian Irrigation Schemes – Transforming Irrigation Management in Northern Nigeria (TRIMING)

This project was implemented in collaboration with ACDI/VOCA. The Value Chain Development Strategy (VCDS) aimed to improve the incomes of smallholder farmers within four irrigation schemes in Northern Nigeria.

This VCDS is the first of a set of deliverables under Component 3 of the TRIMING project, enhanced support to farmers’ productivity. The four irrigation schemes included, the Bakolori Irrigation Scheme (BIS) in Zamfara State, the Middle Rima Irrigation Scheme (MRIS) in Zamfara State, the Kano River Irrigation Scheme (KRIS) in Kano State, and the Hadejia Valley Irrigation Scheme (HVIS) in Jigawa State.

These four schemes currently stretch to cover 27,000 hectares (ha) and reach 113,000 farmers, with extended capacity to reach 40,000 ha and 140,000 farmers over the life of the project.
